Jesus said, “This do in remembrance of Me.” We are to partake of the bread in the Lord’s Supper, in remembrance of the fact that Jesus is “the life.” Just as in the intervals of our meals we live on the food that we take at those seasons, so in the intervals of the occasions when we eat the Lord’s Supper, we live on that which we partake then. That is, we live on the Word, the life of Christ. The Lord’s Supper is a public confession that “Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.” EVCO 255.1
