The Holy Spirit the Water of Life EVCO 267

It is the Spirit of God that brings this water of life to us; or, rather, it is by receiving the Holy Spirit that we receive the water of life; and this we do by faith in Christ, who is represented by the Holy Spirit. On the last day of the feast of tabernacles, “Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive.” 1John 7:37-39 EVCO 267.2

In keeping with this fact that the Spirit of God is the “living water,” are the texts that speak of the Spirit’s being “poured out,” “shed forth,” or poured upon us. 2Acts 2:17, 33; Titus 3:5, 6. The Lord says: “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring; and they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows among the water courses.” 3Isaiah 44:3, 4.
