Thus it appears that the coming of the Lord has been the one grand event toward which everything has been tending ever since the fall. The “promise of His coming” is the same as the promise of a new heaven and a new earth. This was the promise to the “fathers.” Those who scoff at it cannot deny that the Bible contains the promise, but they think that there is no probability of its fulfillment. They ignore the fact that things have changed much since the creation; and they have forgotten that the word of the Lord endureth for ever. EVCO 42.3
