Clive M. McCay (1898-1967), at the time his lecture was given in 1958, was professor of nutrition at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, a position he had held since 1927. After receiving his Ph.D. degree from the University of California in 1925, Dr. McCay entered upon a distinguished career in nutritional research. Among his many awards was the Surgeon General’s Commendation, U.S. Navy, 1946. He was past president of the American Institute of Nutrition and the American Gerontology Society and a member of numerous professional societies. One of his special contributions was the development of improved types of bread and flour. In addition to being the editor of Archives Biochemistry, he authored many magazine articles and books, including The Vitamins (1939), Problems of Ageing (1942), and Food for Life (1952). WEWMM 143.1
