The history covers about 120 years and moves mainly about Samuel, Saul, and David. The prominent, dominant idea is the kingdom: its matter, manner, renewal, and rending; its translation from Saul the Apostate, its deliverance from Absalom the Usurper, and its establishment in the hands of David.
