Dr. Benisch, in his Hebrew Bible, used the term “clotted cream” instead of butter in the following texts where it refers to food: Genesis 18:8; Deuteronomy 32:14; Judges 5:25; 2 Samuel 17:29; Job 20:17; Isaiah 7:15, 22. BHB 167.7
“Butter” is used figuratively is Psalm 55:21; Job 29:6, and Proverbs 30:33. Butter anciently was not a common article of food as at the present day. The Greeks and Romans used it only for medicinal purposes. BHB 167.8
