    JONES, Leander M. (1824-1902) and (first wife) Harriet (c. 1818-1869) and (second wife) Caroline M. (c. 1843-?)

Leander Jones, a carpenter from Monterey, Michigan, became a Sabbathkeeper in 1856, probably together with Harriet. Jones was an active and leading member of his local church. He and his family appear to have been close friends of the Whites. In her diaries Ellen White mentioned several occasions on which the Whites stayed at the Jones home while visiting Monterey. This probably explains James White's fond comment made in 1866: “We stopped at our old home, in the family of Bro. L. M. Jones, where, as usual, we received every possible act of kindness.” Jones married Caroline in 1870 after the death of his first wife.1EGWLM 853.1
