The Books Obtained from Dansville, New York

Two or three months after the health reform vision, James White sent to Dansville for some books on the subject of health. Ellen White wrote a statement of explanation about this in September, 1867:2BIO 81.6

I did not know that such works existed until September, 1863, when in Boston, Massachusetts, my husband saw them advertised in a periodical called the Voice of the Prophets, published by Elder J. V. Himes. My husband ordered the works from Dansville and received them at Topsham, Maine. His business gave him no time to peruse them, and as I was determined not to read them until I had written out my views, the books remained in their wrappers.—Ibid., October 8, 18672BIO 82.1

Except for Henry's death in Topsham in December, 1863, and Willie's bout with pneumonia in February following, this is where matters stood until Ellen White felt at liberty to visit Dr. Jackson's health institution at Dansville, New York.2BIO 82.2
