Chapter 51—Faith the Key to Answered Prayer

“Now faith is a confident assurance of that for which we hope, a conviction of the reality of things which we do not see.”—Hebrews 11:1, WeymouthCWG 119.1

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”—Hebrews 11:6, R.S.V.CWG 119.2

“Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”—Romans 14:23CWG 119.3

To what extent are answers to prayer dependent upon faith? What is “the prayer of faith”?CWG 119.4

Faith is the one and only avenue of approach to God: “Faith is the spiritual hand that touches infinity.”—Testimonies For The Church 6:467CWG 119.5

Faith is not our Saviour: “Through faith we receive the grace of God; but faith is not our Saviour. It earns nothing. It is the hand by which we lay hold upon Christ, and appropriate His merits, the remedy for sin.”—The Desire of Ages, 175CWG 119.8

God reaches for our hand: “God reaches for the hand of faith in us to direct it to lay fast hold upon the divinity of Christ, that we may attain to perfection of character.”—The Desire of Ages, 123CWG 119.9

Faith sees Jesus as our Mediator: “Faith sees Jesus standing as our Mediator at the right hand of God.”—Gospel Workers, 259CWG 120.1

“Today He is standing at the altar of mercy, presenting before God the prayers of those who desire His help.”—The Ministry of Healing, 90CWG 120.2

“As the sinner's sincere, humble prayers ascend to the throne of God, Christ mingles with them the merits of His own life of perfect obedience. Our prayers are made fragrant by this incense. Christ has pledged Himself to intercede in our behalf, and the Father always hears the Son.”—Sons and Daughters of God, 22CWG 120.3

The prayer of faith defined: “The prayer that comes from an earnest heart, when the simple wants of the soul are expressed just as we would ask an earthly friend for a favor, expecting that it would be granted—this is the prayer of faith.”—My Life Today, 19CWG 120.4

The foundation of genuine faith: “Genuine faith has its foundation in the promises and provisions of the Scriptures.”—Gospel Workers, 260CWG 120.5

“We are not to trust in our faith, but in the promises of God.”—Messages to Young People, 111CWG 120.6

If we want our prayers to be answered, then without a doubt unwaveringly with a steadfast faith we need to claim and expect what God has promised to be given to us.CWG 120.7

God has not changed His mind. He still says: Ask, seek, knock and you will receive and find and heavens blessings will be poured out upon us.CWG 120.8

Father, please help us to diligently seek in faith and so live our lives by Your help in harmony with Your will, that our earnest prayers may be answered and nothing may hinder.CWG 120.9
