Key-word, “Anarchy;” Key-verse, 21:25.-This book is named from the period of judges, or civil and military chieftains between Joshua and Saul. Between 1500 and 1000 b. c. lay four or five centuries of disorganization and misgovernment. Idolatry and conformity to the age work ruin. Unity is lost; the tribes take the place of one people. Faith and faithfulness give way to unbelief and fickleness. The tabernacle is hidden in darkness, and there is but one mention of the high priest (20:28). [p. 17]HBS 37.2
