    Not Toleration, but Love

“Every arbitrary exaction of man toward his fellow man will react upon himself in double measure. Just in proportion as the human agent is a partaker of the divine nature, he will be in sympathy with Christ. Jesus says, ‘a new commandment I give unto you [that ye tolerate one another?-No], that ye love one another.... By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.’ ‘This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.’”-The Review and Herald, May 26, 1896.COOD 59.2

The apostle Peter calls attention to the example of Christ, and exhorts to unity in these words: “Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.” 1 Peter 2:21-23.COOD 59.3
