    Beginning with page 440 there are references at the bottom of some of the pages to various publications as to authority for the quotations. This would seem to indicate that there was no objection to introducing such references, and it would seem proper to do so in the other parts of the book as well.WWPGC 31.10

    Response: Prescott was only one of a number who called for references in connection with the materials quoted, and from the first in planning for the 1911 edition this became the policy to follow. Looking up these quotations, verifying them, and finding substitutions, with Mrs. White’s approval, was the major part of the task in dealing with the text.WWPGC 31.11
