    At the bottom is the quotation, “Never erred, and never can err,” to which reference is made on page 57 as one of the propositions put forth by Gregory VII. The original proposition as put forth in Latin, when properly translated reads:WWPGC 33.8

    “The Roman Church never has erred, nor, according to the testimony of Scripture, will it ever err.”WWPGC 33.9

    This is somewhat different from the statement that it “never can err.”WWPGC 33.10

    Response: Criticism accepted, and text changed to agree with the wording in Mosheim.WWPGC 33.11

    1888 book read: “As Rome asserts that she ‘never erred, and never can err,’ how can she renounce the principles which governed her course in past ages?”WWPGC 33.12

    1911 edition changed to read: “As Rome asserts that the church ‘never erred; nor will it, according to the Scriptures, ever err,’ how can she renounce the principles which governed her course in past ages?” (Footnote reference given.)WWPGC 33.13
