    Of the idolaters who united with the church it is said that “they still clung to their idolatry, only changing the objects of their worship to images of Jesus, and even of Mary and the saints.” My understanding is that these idolaters were induced to unite with the church by an accommodation of the Christian doctrine to their beliefs and modes of worship, and that therefore they were brought into the church on the basis of the worship of images.WWPGC 6.5
