    23—Ibhereya Neathene

    [Esi sahluko sisekwe kwiZenzo 17:11-34]

    EBhereya uPawulos wafumana amaYuda ayenentumekelelo yokuziphandela iinyaniso awayezifundisa. Ingxelo kaLuka ithi ngawo: “La ke aye enobuntu kunawaseTesalonika; la wona alamkela ilizwi ngentumekelelo yonke, ezincina izibhalo imihla ngemihla, ukuba zingaba zinjalo na ezi zinto. Kwakholwa ke ngoko into eninzi kuwo, nakumaGrikekazi abekekileyo, nakumadoda, ababa mbalwa.”IZ 231.1

    Iingqondo zabantu baseBhereya zazingenziwanga zacinga kufutshane kukusuka bagwebe nje. Babenentumekelelo yokuphanda ubunyaniso beemfundiso ezazishunyayelwa ngabapostile. Bayifunda iBhayibhile, kungengakufun’ ukuqonda nje, kodwa ukuze bafunde oko kubhaliweyo ngoMesiya ekwakuthenjiswe ngaYe. Yonke imihla babeziphanda iingxelo eziphefumlelweyo, bathi, bethelekisa isiBhalo nesiBhalo, zaye iingelosi zezulu zisecaleni kwabo, zizikhanyisela iingqondo zabo zizivuselela neentliziyo zabo.IZ 231.2

    Kuzo iindawo apho zivakaliswa khona iinyaniso zeendaba ezilungileyo, abo balangazelela ngokwenene ukwenza okulungileyo bakhokelelwa ekuziphengululeni iziBhalo. Ukuba, kwiziganeko zokugqibela zebali lehlabathi, abo kuvakaliswa kubo iinyaniso zovavanyo bangalandela umzekelo wabantu baseBhereya, baziphengulule iziBhalo yonke imihla, bekungabakho namhla inani elikhulu labanyanisekileyo kwimiyalelo yomthetho kaThixo, apho, ngokwangoku, bambalwa. Xa ezi nyaniso zingathandwa kakhulu zivakaliswa, abaninzi bayala ukwenza uphando.     Bonke baya kugwetywa ngokokukhanya ababekunikiwe. INkosi ithumela abameli baYo nesigidimi sosindiso, baze abo basivayo iNkosi ibenze baphendule ngendlela abaye bawaphatha ngayo amazwi abathunywa baYo. Abo bayifuna ngokunyanisekileyo inyaniso, baya kuzingisa ukuphanda, benokukhanya kwelizwi likaThixo, iimfundiso ezibekwe phambi kwabo.IZ 232.2

    AmaYuda angakholwayo aseTesalonika, ezaliswe ngumona nentiyo ngakubapostile, enganeliswanga kukubagxotha ukuba baphume esixekweni sawo, abalandela aya kubafikisa eBhereya apho athi avuselela ezona nkanuko ziphantsi ukuba bachaswe. Ngokoyika ubundlobongela obunokwenziwa ngakuPawulos ukuba uye wahlala apho, abazalwana bamthumela eAthene, ekhatshwa ngabanye baseBhereya ababebatsha elukholweni.IZ 232.3

Sekunjalo, bejongene nenkcaso nongquzulwano, uPawulos wathi chu ngokunyanzelisa ukubheka phambili, ezimisele ukuyifezekisa injongo kaThixo njengoko yayityhilwe kuye embonweni eYerusalem: “Ndiya kukuthuma kude kwiintlanga.” Zenzo 22:21.IZ 233.1

    Ukumka ngokukhawuleza kukaPawulos eBhereya kwamvimba ithuba awayelikhangele lokutyelela abazalwana eTesalonika.IZ 233.2

    Wathi akufika eAthene, umpostile wababuyisela emva abazalwana nesigidimi esiya kuSilas noTimoti ukuba beze bahlangane naye ngokukhawuleza. UTimoti wayeze eBhereya phambi kokuba uPawulos emke, waza wasala noSilas ukuba baqhube umsebenzi owawuqalwe kakuhle kakhulu khona apho, nokufundisa amakholwa amatsha imithetho-siseko yenkolo.IZ 233.3

    Isixeko saseAthene yayisisixeko esikhulu kakhulu sinonqulo lobuhedeni.     Wathi uPawulos akukhangela ubuhle nobucwebecwebe obumngqongileyo, ebona isixeko esizinikele ngokupheleleyo ekukhonzeni izithixo, umoya wakhe wazaliswa likhwele ngenxa kaThixo, awabona ukuba akahlonitshwanga macal’ onke yaza intliziyo yakhe yanovelwano kubantu baseAthene abathe, nangona benenkcubeko yobuchopho, babe bengenalo ulwazi ngoThixo wenyaniso.IZ 234.1

    Umpostile akazange akhohliswe yinto awayibona kule ndawo yemfundo. Imvelo yakhe yasemoyeni yayiphilele ukutsalekela kwizinto zasezulwini kangangokuba, uvuyo nobukhazi-khazi bobutyebi obungasayi kuze buphele bakwenza babayinkunkuma emehlweni akhe ukonwaba nobumenyemenye bako konke okumngqongileyo. Ngokwasekubeni nabahlobo njengomntu, waziva eyedwa ngokupheleleyo. Kwincwadi yakhe eya kwabaseTesalonika uyibeka indlela awayeziva ngayo ngokuthi, “sisale eAthene sedwa.” 1Tesalonika 3:1. Izithintelo ezazibonakala ngathi akungeke kugqitheke kuzo zaya zakhula phambi kwakhe, zikwenza kubonakale ngathi kungalilize ukuzama ukufikelela ezintliziyweni zabantu.IZ 234.3

    NgelixeshawayelindeleuSilasnoTimoti,uPawulos akazange abe ngundilele ongenzinto. “Wayexoxa ke ngoko endlwini yesikhungu namaYuda, nabamhlonelayo uThixo, nasendaweni yembutho imihla ngemihla, nabasukuba bekhona.” Owona msebenzi wakhe uphambili eAthene yayikukuzisa iindaba zosindiso kwabo, ngokwasengqondweni, babengamazi uThixo nenjongo yaKhe ngohlanga oluwileyo. Kungekudala, umpostile wayeza kuqubisana nobuhedeni bukweyona mo inobuqhophololo, nomtsalane.IZ 235.1

    Ngokwesiqhelo sabo, bamkhokelela kwindawo ebizwa ngokuba yiMars’s Hill.     Kule ndawo, kude nengxolo yeendawo ezixineneyo apho kuhliwa kunyukwa khona, nakwiingxoxo zengxubevange yezinto, umpostile wayenokuva kakuhle kungekho nto imphazamisayo. Wayengqongwe ziimbongi, abemidlalo, abefilosofi — izifundiswa nezilumko zaseAthene, abathetha naye bathi, “Singakhe siyive na le mfundiso intsha ithethwa nguwe, ukuba iyini na? Kuba uzisa izinto ezithile zasemzini ezindlebeni zethu; singa singazi ngoko, ukuba zingaba zifuna ukuba yintoni na ezi zinto.”IZ 236.3

    Ngelo xesha lomsebenzi ozukileyo, umpostile wazola wazibumba. Intliziyo yakhe yayinomthwalo wesigidimi esibalulekileyo, namazwi aphuma emlonyeni awoyisela abo bamphulaphuleyo baza bamazi ukuba akalopholopholo nje. “Madoda aseAthene,” watsho, “ndiyabona ukuba ezintweni zonke nincamisile ukuhlonela izithixo. Kuba ndithe, ndihamba ndisingasinga izinto enizihlonelayo, ndafumana nesibingelelo ekubhalwe kuso, kwathiwa, KONGAZIWAYO UTHIXO. Lowo ngoko nimhlonelayo ningamazi, ndinazisa yena mna.” Ngoku benabo bonke ubuchopho nalo lonke ulwazi lwezinto jikelele, babengamazi uThixo owadala amazulu nomhlaba. Nangona kunjalo, babekho ababelangazelela ukukhanya okungaphezulu. Babefuna ukufikelela kuLowo ungenasiphelo.IZ 237.1

    Isandla sakhe esolulele ngasetempileni eyayizele zizithixo, uPawulos wawuthulula umthwalo womphefumlo wakhe, wabutyhila ubutyhakala benkolo yabantu baseAthene. Abona balumkileyo kwabo babemphulaphule bamangaliswa njengoko bephulaphule ukuxoxa kwakhe. Waziveza njengoqheleneyo nemisebenzi yezandla zabo, uncwadi lwabo, kunye nenkolo yabo. Waye esalatha kwizithixo nasemifanekisweni eqingqiweyo, watsho ukuthi uThixo akanako ukufaniswa nezinto ezicetywe ngabantu. Le mifanekiso iqingqiweyo ayingeke ikwazi nakancinane, ukumela uzuko lukaYehova. Wabakhumbuza ukuba izithixo azinabo ubomi, kodwa zazilawulwa ngamandla omntu, zishukuma kuphela xa zishukunyiswa zizandla zomntu; into ethetha ukuthi abo bazinqulayo bona bangaphezulu kakhulu kunoko bakunqulayo.IZ 237.2

    UPawulos wazitsalela iingqondo zabakhonzi bezithixo ababemphulaphule ngaphaya kwemida yenkolo ephuthileyo kumbono wenyaniso kaThixo, abathi bona ngaYe “Ongaziwayo uThixo.”Loke, awayemvakalisa kubo, wayengaxhomekekanga mntwini, engafuni zandla zamntu ukongeza kumandla aKhe nozuko lwaKhe.IZ 237.3

    Abantu bawexulwa kukuyithanda indlela uPawulos anyaniseke nalandelelanisa ngayo intetho yakhe ngeempawu zikaThixo oyinyaniso — amandla aKhe adalayo kunye nobukho bokubonelela kwaKhe okuphezu konke. Ngokunyaniseka nobushushu bobuciko bakhe, waphimisela ngelithi, “UThixo yena, owenza ihlabathi neento zonke ezikulo, lowo, eyiNkosi nje yezulu nomhlaba, akahlali zitempileni zenziwe ngazandla. Kananjalo akaphiliswa zizandla zabantu, ngokoswele into, inguye nje obanika bonke ubomi, nomphefumlo, nazo zonke izinto.” Amazulu ayengebanzi ngokwaneleyo ukuba amthabathe wonke uThixo, zibekise phi ukuba zincinane iitempile ezenziwe ngezandla zabantu!IZ 238.1

    Ngalo mihla yocalulo, amalungelo abantu engakhathalelwanga, uPawulos wabeka ngaphambili inyaniso enkulu yobuzalwana boluntu, evakalisa ukuba uThixo “wazenza ngagazi-nye zonke iintlanga zabantu, ukuba zime phezu kwawo wonke umhlaba.” Phambi kukaThixo bonke abantu bayalingana, kwaye wonke umntu kufuneka anike imbeko enkulu kuMdali. Wabuya umpostile wabonisa indlela ekuthe, kuko konke ukuphathana kukaThixo nomntu, injongo nenceba yaKhe (uThixo) zabonakala zityhutyha okokoko njengomsonto wegolide. Kungoko athe “[wa]misa amaxesha abekwe ngenxa engaphambili, nemida yokuma kwazo; ukuze bayifune iNkosi, ukuba kambe bangaphuthaphutha bayifumane, nakuba ingekude kuthi sonke ngabanye.”IZ 238.2

    Esalatha kwimizekelo enendili engabantu ababemngqongile, wazoba umfanekiso kaThixo ongenasiphelo njengoBawo, esebenzisa amazwiabolekwekwimbongi yabo, wazoba umfanekiso kaThixo ongenasiphelo njengoBwo, obantwana baKhe nabo ababe ngabo. “Kuba kuyo sihleli, siyashukuma, sikho;” watsho; “njengokuba neembongi ezithile zenu zitshilo ukuthi, Kuba nathi siyinzala yakhe. Siyinzala kaThixo nje ke, akusifanele ukuba sibe ubuthixo obu bufana negolide nesilivere nelitye, into eqingqwe ngobungcibi nangengcinga yomntu.IZ 238.3

    “Loo maxesha ke ngoko okungazi, uThixo wawayeka ngabomi; kungoku uyala abantu bonke ezindaweni zonke ukuba baguquke.” Ngemihla yobumnyama eyayiphambi kokufika kukaKristu, uMlawuli ongcwele wadlula kancinane phezu kokunqulwa kwezithixo ngabahedeni; kodwa ngoku, ngoNyana waKhe, ubathumele abantu ukukhanya kwenyaniso; waye elindele ukuba bonke baguqukele elusindisweni, kungekuphela abo bahluphekileyo nabathobekileyo, kodwa nabo bazaliswe likratshi banolwazi kunye nabaphathi basemhlabeni. “Ngokuba emise umhla, aza kuligweba ngawo elimiweyo ngobulungisa, ngendoda awayimisayo, ebanike bonke ukholo ngokuyivusa kwabafileyo.” Wathi uPawulos akuthetha ngovuko kwabafileyo, “inxenye yahlekisa ngaloo nto, abanye bathi, Sobuya sikuve wena ngale nto.”IZ 239.1

    Ngolo hlobo, kwaba kuyavalwa ukusebenza kukampostile eAthene, iziko lemfunndo yobuhedeni; ukusebenzela abantu baseAthene abatsheleyo ekunquleni izithixo, bekushiya ukukhanya kwenkolo yenene. Xa abantu baneliseke ngokupheleleyo koko bafikelele kuko, kuncinane kakhulu okunokulindeleka kubo. Nangona babezigwagwisa ngemfundo nokuchubeka, abantu baseAthene bathi rhoqo ukonakala ngakumbi baye banelisekile ziimfihlelo ezingekho ntweni zonqulo lwezithixo.IZ 239.2

    Phakathikwabobabewaphulaphule amazwikaPawulos,kwakukho abathileekwathi ezingqondweni zabo iinyaniso ezabekwayo zazisa ukoyisakala, kodwa abafuna ukuzithoba bamvume uThixo balamkele icebo losindiso. Akukho buciko bamazwi, kungekho lunyanzelo ngengxoxo, lunokumguqula umoni. Ngamandla kaThixo kuphela anokuyisebenza inyaniso entliziyweni. Lowo ozingisayo ukumka kula mandla akanako ukufikeleleka. AmaGrike ayefuna ubulumko, ukanti kuwo isigidimi somnqamlezo sasibubudenge kuba ayexabise obawo ubulumko ngaphezulu kakhulu kobulumko obuza buvela ngasentla.IZ 239.3

    Ngokuzidla kwawo ngobuchopho nobulumko bomntu, kunokufunyanwa unobangela wokuba isigidimi seendaba e zilungileyo sibe nempumelelo encinane kubantu baseAthene. Abantu abazizilumko ehlabathini abathi beze kuKristu njengaboni abangamahlwempu alahlekileyo, baya kulumka basindiswe; kodwa abo beza njengabantu abaphezulu, bephakamisa obabo ubulumko, baya kusilela ukuzuza ukukhanya nolwazi okunokunikwa nguYe [uKristu] kuphela.IZ 240.1

    Kwaba njalo ukuhlangana kukaPawulos nobuhedeni bemihla yakhe. Ukusebenza kwakhe eAthene akuzange kube lilize ngokupheleleyo. UDiyonisiyo, omnye wabona bemi babebalulekile, kunye nabanye, basamkela isigidimi seendaba ezilungileyo bazimanya ngokupheleleyo namakholwa.IZ 240.2

    Impefumlelo ikhe yasikrobisa kubomi babantu baseAthene, abathi, benalo lonke ulwazi, bechubekile, benezandla, kodwa bantywila ebubini, nokuze kubonakale indlela athe uThixo, ngomkhonzi waKhe, wakukhalimela ukunqulwa kwezithixo, nezono, zokuziphakamisa, nokuba ngabantu abaneliseke yiloo nto bayiyo. Amazwi kampostile, nendlela yokuziphatha kwakhe noko kumngqongileyo, xa kulandwa lusiba lwempefumelelo oko kwakuya kugqithiselwa kwizizukulwana ezizayo, lunika ubungqina ngesibindi sakhe esingagungqiyo,isibindisakhe eyedwa naphakathi kwenkcaso, noloyiso awaluzuzela ubuKristu ephakathi kanye endaweni yobuhedeni.IZ 240.3

    Amazwi kaPawulos aqulethe indyebo yolwazi olulunge ebandleni. Wayekwindawo apho wayenokuthi ngokulula athethe into eyayinokukhubekisa abaphulaphuli ababenekratshi aze abe sengxakini. Ukuba intetho yakhe yayithe ngqo ihlasela oothixo babo kunye namadoda amakhulu esixeko, ngewaba sengozini yokuhlangana nesiphelo esifana nesikaSocrates. Ngobuchule bothando lwasezulwini, ngobunono wazitsala wazisusa iingqondo zabo koothixo bobuhedeni, ngokubatyhilela uThixo wenyaniso, ababengamazi bona.IZ 241.1

    Namhlanje iinyaniso zeziBhalo kufuneka ziziswe phambi kwamadoda amakhulu ehlabathi ukuze akhethe phakathi kokuthobela umthetho kaThixo okanye ukuhlonela itshawe lobubi. UThixo ubeka inyaniso engunaphakade phambi kwawo — inyaniso enokuwenza alumke asindiswe, kodwa akawanyanzeli ukuba ayamkele. Ukuba ayayitshikilela, ukuyekela oko, ukuze azaliswe ziziqhamo zezenzo zawo.IZ 241.2

    “Kuba ilizwi lomnqamlezo libubudenge okunene kwabatshabalalayo; kodwa ke kwabasindiswayo, thina aba, lingamandla kaThixo. Kuba kubhaliwe kwathiwa, Ndiya kubutshabalalisa ubulumko bezilumko, ingqondo yeengqondi ndiyitshitshise.” “UThixo usuke wanyula izinto ezibubudenge zehlabathi, ukuze azidanise izinto ezomeleleyo; nezinto zehlabathi ezingenabuntu, nezingento yanto, wazinyula uThixo, nezingathi azikho, ukuze aziphuthise izinto ezikhoyo.” 1 Korinte 1:18, 19; 27, 28.Abaninziabazizifundiswaezikhulu namadodaelizwe,awona madoda ahloniphekileyo ehlabathini, kule mihla yokugqibela aya kukushiya ukukhanya kuba ihlabathi, ngobulumko balo, alimazi uThixo. Bona abasebenzi bakaThixo kufuneka baphuhlise onke amathuba okudlulisela inyaniso kula madoda. Abanye baya kukuvuma ukungazazi kwabo izinto zikaThixo baze bathabathe indawo yabo njengabafundi abathobekileyo ezinyaweni zikaYesu, iTitshala eyiNtloko.IZ 241.3
