“Emveni koku,” watsho uYesu, “niya kumbonauNyanawoMntu ehleli ngasekunene kwamandla, esiza esemafini ezulu.” Ngala mazwi, uKristu wanika elinye icala lomboniso owawusenzeka ngoko. Ekrazula ingubo yakhe, ukuze abantu bakubone ukothuka kwakhe, kokuzenzisa phofu, wanyanzelisa ukuba kuthi, kungakhange kubekho ngxoxo yimbi, umbanjwa agwetyelwe ukunyelisa. “Sisawafunelani na amangqina?” watsho; “Yabonani, ngoku nikuvile ukunyelisa kwakhe; nithini na nina?” Baza bonke bamgweba. Ngokukrazula ingubo yakhe, uKayafa wawenza waba yinto engento umthetho kaThixo, ukulandela isithethe sabantu. Umthetho owenziwe ngabantu wawuvuma ukuba kuthi kwimeko yokunyelisa umbingeleli angazikrazula iingubo zakhe ngokoyika isono, aze angabi natyala. ISanhedrin yayivakalise ukuba uYesu ufanelwe kukufa; kodwa kwakuchasene nomthetho wamaYuda ukuxoxa ityala lombanjwa ngobusuku. Ngokwesigwebo sasemthethweni kwakungekho nto yayinokwenziwa kungekho ekukhanyeni kwemini naphambi kwentlanganiso epheleleyo yequmrhu. Nangona sekunjalo oko, uMsindisi ngoku waphathwa njengomaphuli womthetho osele egwetyiwe, waza wanikelwa ukuba aphathwe gadalala ngabona baphantsi nabangcolileyo abantu. Ibhotwe lombingeleli omkhulu lalijikeleze inkundla elibala elivulekileyo apho kwakubuthelene khona amasoldati nezihlwele. Wacanda kule nkundla uYesu esiwa kwigumbi lomgcini, ehamba egculelwa macaleni onke kuba ethe unguNyana kaThixo. Amazwi waKhe athi, “ehleli ngasekunene kwamandla,” nathi, “esiza esemafini ezulu,” aphindwa ngokunyelisa. Ngexesha ekwigumbi lokugcinwa, elindele ukuxoxa ngokusemthethweni, wayengenalo ukhuseleko. Emva kokuba beyishiyile iNkosi yabo esitiyeni, ababini kubafundi babanokuqina balandela, bechasele, isihlwele esasikhokelwa nguYesu. Aba bafundi yayinguPetros noYohane. Ababingeleli bamnakana uYohane njengomfundi owaziwa kakhulu kaYesu, baza bamngenisa eholweni, benethemba lokuba, xa ebona ukuthotyelwa phantsi kweNkokheli yakhe, uya kuyicaphukela ingcinga yokuba onjalo abe unguNyana kaThixo. UYohane wathetha kakuhle ngoPetros, waza wakwazi ukwenza ukuba angeniswe naye.ULw 710.3
Enkundleni kwakubaswe umlilo; kuba yayilelona lixa libandayo lobusuku, kanye phambi kokuba kuse. Iqela lasondela ngasemlilweni, noPetros ngobuganga wahlala kunye nabo. Wayenganqweneli ukuba aqondwe njengomfundi kaYesu. Ngokuzixuba ngokungenamsebenzi nesihlwele, wayethembe ukuba uya kuthatyathwa njengomnye wabo babezise uYesu apho eholweni. ULw 710.4

Ukuba kwakuthiwe makazokulwela iNkosi yaKhe, ngewaba lisoldati elinesibindi; kodwa wathi akolathwa ngumnwe wokugculela, waziveza ukuba uligwala. Abaninzi abangakoyikiyo ukusebenzela iNkosi yabo, bagxothwa kukugculelwa ukuba balukhanyele ukholo lwabo. Ngokuzihlanganisa kwabo nabo kufuneka bebaphephile, bazibeka endleleni yesihendo. Bamema utshaba ukuba lubalinge, baze banyanzeleke ukuba bathethe, benze oko bekunokuthi phantsi kwezinye iimeko bangabi natyala ngako. Umbono wobo buso bumbatshileyo, bunentlungu, loo milebe ibebezelayo, eyabonakala inemfesane noxolelo, kwamhlaba entliziyweni ngokotolo. Isazela savuka. Inkumbulo yasebenza. UPetros wakhumbula isithembiso sakhe kwiiyure ezimbalwa ngaphambi koku sokuba uya kuya neNkosi yakhe entlolongweni nasekufeni. Wakukhumbula ngoloyiko ukungabi nambulelo kwakhe, ukuxoka kwakhe, ukugqwetha inyaniso. Waphinda wakhangela eNkosini yakhe, wasibona isandla esihlambelayo siphakama ukuba siyibethe ebusweni. Ngokungakwazi ukuwunyamezela lo mbono, wabaleka, intliziyo yaphukile, wayishiya iholo. ULw 713.3
Wabheka phambili eyedwa kwaye kumnyama, engazi kwaye engakhathali nokuba ubheka phi. Ekugqibeleni wazifumana eseGetsemane. Umboniso weeyure ezimbalwa ngaphambi koko, wamfikela ucace kakhulu engqondweni yakhe. Ubuso obusentlungwini beNkosi yakhe, ukubila okudyojwe ligazi nobutsalwe yintlungu, bathi tha phambi kwakhe. Wakhumbula ngokuzohlwaya okukrakra ukuba uYesu wayelila encwina ekuthandazeni yedwa, lo gama, abo babemele ukuba bamanyene naYe ngelo lixa libuhlungu, babelele. Wakhumbula umyalelo waKhe onendili, “Lindani nithandaze, ukuze ningangeni ekuhendweni.” Mat. 26:41. Waphinda wabona umboniso okwigumbi letyala. Kwaba kukuthuthunjiswa kwintliziyo yakhe eyophayo ukwazi ukuba wongeza kowona mthwalo unzima wokuhlaziswa nentlungu yoMsindisi. Kwakungenxa yokulala ukuze uYesu amyalele ukuba alinde athandaze, awathi uPetroswalungiselelakhonaindlela yesono sakhe esikhulu. Bonke abafundi, ngokulala ngelo lixa linzima, baba nelahleko enkulu. UKristu wayeyazi intlungu etshisayo ababeza kuphumela kuyo. Wayeyazi indlela uSathana awayeza kusebenza ngayo ukubulala izivo zabo ukuze bangakulungeli ukulingwa. Kwathi ngako nje ukuba ivele imini, iSanhedrin yaphinda yahlangana, kwakhona uYesu waziswa kwigumbi lequmrhu. Wayethe unguNyana kaThixo, baye bawabeka ngandlela yimbi amazwi aKhe ukuze abe lityala ngakuYe. Phofu babengakwazi ukumgweba ngenxa yoku, kuba abaninzi kubo babengekho kuloo ntlanganiso yobusuku, ngoko abaweva amazwi aKhe. Xa kwakuwiswa isigwebo sikaYesu ngabagwebi, abantu bathiwa hlasi yingqumbo yenkohlakalo. Ingxolo yamazwi yafana neyezilwanyana zasendle. Isihlwele sagxalathelana ukuya kuYesu, sikhwaza, Unetyala, makabulawe! Ukuba kwakungengakuba kukho amasoldati amaRoma, uYesu ngewayengazanga waphila ukuze abethelelwe emnqamlezweni eKalvari. Ngewadlakazwa phambi kwabagwebi baKhe, ukuba igunya laseRoma lalingangenelelanga, lathi ngokusebenzisa izixhobo labunqanda ubundlongondlongo besihlwele.ULw 715.1
Abantu abangabahedeni babenomsindo ngendlela ekhohlakeleyo yokuphathwa komntu ekungekho mposiso yafunyanwayo kuye. Bathi ubuganga baKhe bokuthi unguMesiya bumenze wafanela okona kufa kubi. Nawona madoda angcolileyo ayenenxaxheba kokona kuphathwa kakubi kungazimasekanga koMsindisi. Irhonya lengubo endala laphoswa phezu kwentloko yaKhe, baza abatshutshisi baKhe bamqhwaba ngempama ebusweni, besithi, “Siprofetele, wena Kristu; ubethwe ngubani na?” Lathi lakususwa irhonya elo, olunye usizana lodwayi lwamtshicela ebusweni.ULw 715.3
Iingelosi zikaThixo zakucholachola ngokuthembeka konke ukukhangela ngolunya, izwi nesenzo sokuchasa uMphathi-mkhosi wazo othandekayo.
